Where does Fluffy go?

Fluffy prefers to stay closer to home

A zoologist at the University of Otago put more than bells on cats that lived near the town belt, she put radio tracking collars on them. She was interested in finding out where these cats wandered and what they brought home for show and tell. Some cats wandered far and wide, and some chose to stay closer to home, but nearly all the cats found their way into the town belt where there are greater numbers of native and nonnative birds, mice, and rats available for snacking.

Princess is a more courageous cat

The greener half of the aerial photographs is the town belt area. Notice how much smaller the scale is in “Princess’s” map; she ventures quite far from home in comparison to “Fluffy”.

Cats’ names have been changed to protect their identity.
