There are over 40 species of birds in and around Dunedin. Some of the native birds commonly found in the town belt include bellbirds, tuis, kereru (wood pigeon), fantails, brown creepers, and tomtits. The town belt and surrounding gardens have been shown to contain the highest numbers of native birds, whilst those areas with little vegetation contain only introduced species such as sparrows, starlings, and blackbirds.

We’d be pleased to hear from you about which birds you have seen in the town belt! Please send us a comment.
